The Eckleburg Project

Texas A&M's Official Literary Journal

The Eckleburg Project is the official undergraduate literary journal of Texas A&M University. We are an undergraduate organization featuring student poetry, prose, and art. Now with thirteen issues under our belt, we started with the idea that art should be free and easily accessible to the community.

Our staff is composed of undergraduate students and editors who select pieces to be published semesterly under a process of blind review. For information on how to join, go to our apply page. For information on how to submit, go to our submissions page. For general inquiries, or just to say hello, contact our organizational email at theeckleburgproject@gmail.com.

As always, we thank you for your support as we continue to foster art here at Texas A&M.

in a world without you by Akkad Ajam

In a world with you.

Pink-tipped curls of gold sit on your shoulders,

curled up in a scarf and wearing a beanie.

You're sitting across from me,

him to your left and her to your right.

Your gaze jumps from joke to laugh

Laugh to joke, them to me.

There's a game on the table,

entertainment to fill the silence:

Gaps between discussions of nothing,

and they're interesting,

I’m totally captivated,

by glasses that reflect my nose.

in a world without you.

maroon cushions between maroon walls,

filled by my closest friends in the world.

sitting in a circle, him to her right and her to his left.(a gap between him and her)

i'm laughing at every joke they say.

i'm smiling at every thing they do.

and we're playing a game that fills the silence:

gaps between showing up and leaving-

the highlight of- no, i'm enjoying myself,

i'm enjoying myself, this is fun.

i can't even lie because it's somehow the truth

things have been good. i'm doing okay.

but there's nothing to her right and nothing to his left.
